Big Ben

Possibly the most famous clock face and chimes in the world, Big Ben is actually the name of the biggest bell(13.5 tons) inside The Clock Tower (320ft) which forms part of the houses of parliament. Built in1858/9 the bell was named after one Sir Benjamin Hall and when it was cast it was  Britain's heaviest bell.
The clock's four dials each have a diameter of23ft, the minute hands are14ft long and the numerals on each face are nearly2 feet high. The accuracy of the clock movement is controlled by the placing of old pennies in the mechanism.
Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square, the main hub of Central London, was built in honour of ADMIRAL NELSON after his victory in1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. JOHN NASH designed it in the1830's. The centre piece is Nelson's column, which supports a large statue of Nelson on the top. Nelson looks tiny from the ground but is actually18ft high. The exact height of the column varies considerably depending on who you ask. Estimates swing from a modest120ft to over200ft.

Edinburgh Castle is worth a pilgrimage, not least for the views from the battlements. The castle stands on extinct volcanic rock;the sheer rock crags discouraged enemies but did not prevent  the English from overrunning Edinburgh on several occasions.
The castle reflects stylistic changes from the12th to20th centuries. Mary, Queen of Scots, gave birth to James VI(James I of England) in the State Apartments. Napoleonic soldiers were detained in the prison vaults, where their carvings are visible on the walls. Among the regalia in the Crown Chamber are the scepter, sword, and Crown Jewels of Scotland.

Covent Garden
The name Covent Garden dates back to when the area belonged to Westminster Abbey and was a Convent Garden.
This was London's Wholesale Fruit and Veg market for many years. The market was moved to Nine Elmes some time ago and in1980 Covent Garden was turned into a leisure area featuring novelty shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is also the venue for a regular antique market and craft fairs.
