保加利亚共和国位于欧洲巴尔干半岛东部。面积11万余平方千米。人口890多万，保加利亚人占88%余为土耳其人、吉普赛人等。通用保加利亚语。首都索非亚。人
口122万。境内平原、丘隆、山地兼备，有多瑙河、马里
查河等河流。北部为温和的大陆性气候，南部属地中
海式气候。有煤、铁、铅、锌等矿藏，但储量不大。森
林覆盖率近30%。保加利亚为传统农业国，近年来工业
发展迅速，有电力、机械、冶金、化工、食品加工等部
门。农业盛产玉米、烟草、甜菜、水果、蔬菜等，玫瑰
油产量位居世界第一。素有“巴尔干的果园、菜园、花园”的美誉。保加利亚交通以公路为主，铁路、水运、空运及管道运输全面 发展，体系完备。

TheBalkan
Range spreads throughout Bulgaria from the
Belogradchik Pass in the west to the Emine
cape(the Black Sea) in the east. The length of the
Balkan Range is about530 km and the width-15-50 m.
Its highest peak is Mt Botev-2376 m. |

TheMagura
cave is situated near the village of
Rabisha. The monoclinal ridge of the Magura hill,
created of chalk limestone, sticks out alone among
the surrounding hilly lowlands. A stone staircase
leads to the deep cave labyrinth-2500 m
underground galleries. Latest archeological
excavations show that,centuries after centuries
the Magura cave had been inhabited by Thracian
tribes during the Bronze age. The first, Triumphal
Hall was a settlement of many people. There are
finds of the next, Iron Age. Many materials from
the two Ages are found in the Magura cave,
especially ceramic remains. In place of the
today's artificial lake, there was a small natural
lake, always full of water, even during dry years. |

THE ISKARA
GORGE
The gorge of the Iskara river is
located between the town of Novi Iskar and the
village of Chomakovtsi, Pleven. Like a giant split
in the Stara Planina it is spread out156
kilometers away. Nature created marvelous
formations of earth and stone, lights and shadows.
A number of meanders, sheer cliffs, weird slopes
and river-side valleys are scattered from Novi
Iskur up to Luti Brod.

Sinite Kamani
is a reserve in the East Stara Planina mountain
with a total area of66684,5
ha;290m to1181 m above sea level. Here are located
the Blue Stones- picturesque rock formations with
different names: the Dolls, the Barrel, the Camel,
the Little Frog, the Ring, the Chimneys, the
Eagle's Nest, etc. |
